Make way for the Maruti’s successful car in the three-box car sedan segment. The predecessor of the not so great SX4, make way for the most the desirable sedan - Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. There happens to be a vague meaning behind its name too. Some sources claim it to be Comfort, Intelligence, Attitude and Zeal as the important aspects of this wonderful car. Maruti has been able to get neck-to-neck with Honda City by selling approximately 4000-5000 odd cars every month. The Ciaz has been a revolution in the market by its firm entry into the premium segment.
Under the hood of this sedan is a 1.4 Litre K-series engine for the petrol version and a 1.3 L Ddis 200 engine for the diesel version. These engines have been familiar and have been there for quite some time. Maruti has redefined the engine by tuning it exceptionally well. The SHVS technology is applicable only for the diesel engine. The petrol cars are available in both 5-speed manual as well as 4-speed automatic transmissions.
These aren't one of the most powerful machines in this segment, but they happen to do they job very well. The SHVS Diesel is by far the most fuel efficient car in India. The Smart Hybrid Technology helps in capturing the energy through regenerative braking. The usage of stainless steel parts has assisted in making the cars lighter. Considering the dimensions of the Ciaz the petrol car weighs about 1000 kgs and the diesel car about 100 kgs more. All these factors add up to enable the Ciaz deliver outstanding fuel economy figures. The SHVS diesel can achieve up to 28kmpl while the petrol engines deliver 20.7 kmpl and 19.1 kmpl for the manual and automatic transmissions respectively.
