Maruti Suzuki has been able to retain its reliability with its range of cars. All that has not worked well for Maruti Suzuki is the premium car segment. Be it SX4, Kizashi or Grand Vitara for that matter, nothing went in favour of the brand. Maruti changed its approach with the Ciaz. Hence it comes up with a whole new division of premium cars. The Premium for Maruti is beautiful and good performing cars without burning a hole in the pocket. Maruti has introduced its first premium crossover under the NEXA brand.
Maruti Suzuki has launched the premium crossover only with the diesel engines. There are two engine options for the S-Cross. The first option is a 1.3 Litre Ddis 200 engine and the second one is a 1.6 Litre Ddis 320 engine which a better-refined engine overall
The diesel engines on both cars are good performers in this category. The Ddis 200 engine can pull off 88.5 bhp@3750 rpm while the Ddis 320 can rack up 118 bhp@1750 rpm. The Ddis 320 engine feels more planted as compared to its counterpart. The Ddis 200 feels very slack at lower rpms and also feels a little restricted when it comes to handling corners.
The S-Cross is not a very fancy car as it tries to maintain the signature Maruti look. The car from the outside looks like a buffed up hatchback yet trying to be simple and subtle. The interiors on the hand are plush and meets expectations. The wheel arches and skid plate garnishes make the car look like a crossover. The interiors on the hand are plush and totally upmarket. The dashboard has a nice look and feels along with good quality upholstery gives it a premium feel.
The ride quality of this car can give you a sense of luxury. The car is equipped with touchscreen infotainment system which has Bluetooth connectivity. The odometer and tachometer is a TFT screen that displays all the vital information. The car has made maximum utilisation of the space inside the cabin. There is ample amount of headroom and knee room for passengers. The boot space on this is around 350 litres which decent considering the amount of space in the cabin. Maruti has offered decent storage spaces for cups, bottles and much more.
Fuel economy is one of the least expected aspects for a premium car. Maruti gets a thumbs up for this one too. S-Cross is also one of the most fuel efficient cars in this segment. The smaller capacity engine can run up to 23.65 kmpl whilst the larger one up to 22 kmpl.
